The very camera my dad gave me
About
I began holding a camera at a very young age because of my father and his love for photography. Everywhere we went, he felt the need to document the moment, always stopping to snap a photo. I remember the first time he told me, “You have a good eye.” That was the moment I realized I wanted to be the one taking the photos, not the one in them. He later gave me my first camera, passing down a love for photography that his own father had passed down to him. I still use it to this day. It’s a Canon Rebel XT.
I was never fond of being photographed; I found more comfort and freedom behind the camera. By my senior year of high school, I decided to take photography more seriously. I enrolled in a film photography class and completed an internship working alongside a still-life commercial photographer in Red Hook, Brooklyn. During those months, I learned so much that it became clear this was what I wanted to continue pursuing. That experience ultimately led me to apply as a photography major in college.
